For Athletes

The Participant Guide

Everything you need to know before your first match — in plain English.

The Format — What Am I Actually Doing?

Gym League Global is simple at heart: your team goes head-to-head against another gym's team, once a week, for six weeks. There's no ladder to climb before you understand it — you show up, you compete across four stations (we call them "gates"), and you find out how you did before you leave.

Each week, you're matched against one athlete (or pair) from the opposing team in your category — Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles, or Mixed Doubles. You do the same exercises they do. Whoever performs better on the day earns more points for their team.

You don't need to be the fittest person in the room. The scoring is built so that hitting a fair, achievable benchmark always earns you something — and beating your direct opponent is a bonus on top, not the only way to score.

How Scoring Works — No Maths Degree Required

There are four gates. The first three work the same way. The fourth is different — it's the finish line.

Gates 1, 2 and 3

Each gate has three exercises. For every exercise, here's what happens:

So the most you can score on any single exercise is 2 points — and the least is 0. With three exercises per gate, each gate is worth up to 6 points.

Gate 4 — The Sprint Finish

The last gate is different. All three exercises are combined into one continuous, all-out sprint against the clock. There's no per-exercise scoring here — it's about finishing, and finishing first.

That means Gate 4 is worth up to 6 points too — and because it's winner-take-all, it's often where a tight match gets decided.

Maximum possible score in a match: 3 gates × 6 points + Gate 4's 6 points = 24 points per athlete/pairing, all rolled up into your team's total for the week.

What About My Stats?

We track everything you do — every rep, every time, every distance — separately from your points. So if you row 850m one week and 1.25km the next, both numbers are saved to your profile, even though the points you earn depend on how that measures up against the benchmark and your opponent that week.

This means you can always see your own progress over time, compare yourself week to week, and celebrate a personal best — even in a week where the points didn't go your way. Competition decides the table. Your stats page tells your own story.

The Exercises — What to Expect at Each Gate

Every gate blends three types of effort: a cardio piece, a strength piece, and a power/explosive piece. The exact exercises rotate by season, but the structure stays the same so you always know roughly what's coming.

Your gym will walk you through the specific exercises and benchmarks before your first match — you'll never be asked to do something you haven't seen or practiced first.

On the Day — What Actually Happens

  1. Check the lineup. Before things kick off, the running order for the day is posted and displayed on screen at the venue — you'll know exactly which gate you're on and when.
  2. Warm up. Each gate has a short warm-up window before scoring starts.
  3. Compete. A judge times and records your result. Your opponent does the same exercise, either right before or after you.
  4. See it on screen. Scores are entered as you go, so the live standings update through the day.
  5. Check the table. After the last gate, your team's total for the week is locked in and added to the season standings.

Quick Questions

What if I've never done one of these exercises before?

Your gym will brief you beforehand, and judges are there to make sure everything is done safely and fairly. The benchmarks are set to be achievable for a genuinely fit, well-prepared athlete — not an elite specialist.

What if my team doesn't win the match — does my individual score still matter?

Yes. Your points contribute directly to your team's weekly total, and your personal stats are tracked regardless of the overall result. Individual effort is never invisible here.

Can I compete in more than one category?

Talk to your gym about this — team rosters and category eligibility are managed at the gym level to keep things fair across the season.

I don't have a team yet — can I still sign up?

Yes. When you sign up, choose "Assign Me" and we'll place you in the pool for your region — gyms looking for athletes can pick you up from there.
